ALMOST 450 THOUSAND PASSENGERS PASSED BRNO AIRPORT IN THE SUMMER SEASON 2018
Press release
Brno, November 27, 2018
During the three strongest months, the number of checked-in passengers increased by more than 20% compared to last year. During the holidays, thanks to the interest in air transport to holiday destinations, there was a historical record in the number of transported passengers in one month. Both in July (116 thousand) and in August (110 thousand). The biggest increase was recorded by seasonal transport when up to 40% more people went on holiday this year from Brno than in the season of 2017.
"Already the first year of being part of the Accolade group, Brno Airport registered record results. The development of regular lines remains a priority to us. And thanks to the smooth cooperation with the South Moravian Region and the city of Brno, we managed to bring two new lines to Brno in one year - Milan and Berlin. We are thus fulfilling the promise we made to the citizens of the South Moravian Region, and we are succeeding in building a major regional airport,” says Milan Kratina, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Brno Airport.
"Thanks to a very wide range of interesting destinations and a high frequency of flights, Travel Service and its brand Smartwings have become a clear choice for clients when planning their trips in the summer. During the summer season, the largest Czech airline had at Brno Airport a base for four of its aircraft and operated flights from Brno to almost two dozen destinations,” says Petr Šujan, Sales Service Director.
During this year's summer holidays, up to 30% more aircraft were handled at Brno Airport than in the previous year, thanks to the ever-increasing interest in air transport. Specifically, 180 more seasonal flights were planned in the flight schedule.
During the summer flight season, g.e. from 28th March 2018 to 28th October 2018, the most popular destination, as in the previous years, was the Bulgarian Burgas with more than 50 thousand checked-in passengers, followed by Antalya in Turkey and Heraklion in Greece. A total number of 340 flights went to six local airports in Greece. As for regular flights, more than 300 flights flew to Munich and 215 to London.

The Head of the Transport Operations Department of BRNO a.s. Radek Lang adds: "We very much appreciate the interest of passengers in seasonal flights, which increased this year and verified our readiness for the summer season. We believe that together with the offer of new regular connections, this trend will continue, and we will maintain favourable results in the coming years."
The forecasts for the overall result of 2018 are also relatively optimistic. We assume that Brno Airport will again exceed half a million checked-in passengers after six years.
